Letterpress Coffee Table
Birch Plywood
This was a particularly interesting brief to work on. The client had provided us with an antique letterpress drawer that they asked to be inset into a glass coffee table as a gift for their partner who used to work in the printing industry. Along with this request, the only other part of the brief was that they wanted it to be made of Birch Plywood and for the laminations to be a prominent feature.
Taking inspiration from mid-century modern furniture for the legs and the antique drawer itself for the top section we set to work on building what could be described as a larger drawer to hold the drawer. With the table set to containing small trinkets that would undoubtedly attract the attention of younger members of the client’s family, we also chose to install a hidden lock on the table to prevent any disappearances.
